According to the industries president for New South Wales, Ian Macdonald, the disease may well extend rapidly all the way through the Randwick stables, where most of Australia's premium thoroughbreds are stabled and which holds nearly 700 thoroughbreds. Randwick is also home to some of the country's most important trainers.

The eruption is an overwhelming shock to the racing industry and the cancellation of the races will cost millions of dollars to the horse industry and bookmakers. The fright of employment loss also lies in the midst of many.
Executive Peter V'Landys referred to the situation as a grim day stating that the annulment of Sydney races would have an important impact on the Melbourne spring carnival, as well as the Melbourne Cup, Australia's most prominent horse race which is held in November.

For the time being, just about 100 citizens, 30 of which are children, are to stay put and quarantine subsequent to an outburst in Warwick, Queensland state. The Equine flu does not have an effect on humans, but may be linger on garments or footwear.
