   Chris Simms, the Buccaneers quarterback, who became starter last season when Brian Griese went down with an injury, is ready to go back to the field after having his spleen removed.

Simms underwent a spleenectomy at St. Joseph's Hospital, which is located a few blocks from Raymond James Stadium.

"We're going to do what our doctors deem is the right thing to do, he's going to be just fine ... His football career is not in jeopardy. There is a chance he can come back and play this year." Coach Jon Gruden said.

The Buc’s quarterback was replaced on the last play of the third quarter and first of the fourth quarter by Gradkowski, due to the several hard hits during Sunday's game.

Gruden also announced Monday that sixth-round pick Bruce Gradkowski will start the club's next game at New Orleans on October 8. Tampa Bay has a bye this week.

The 26 year old player went to the ground on one knee and looked disoriented before walking to the locker room on his own.

On the same game Simms completed 13-of-24 passes for 139 yards and one touchdown with an interception. He also scored on a two-yard run in the third quarter, giving the Bucs a 21-20 lead.

This one has not been the best of season for Simms who has just one touchdown and seven interceptions, the Buc’s fell 0-3 with Sunday’s loss.

However, last season, the left-handed player helped Tampa Bay to obtain the NFC South Division Title.
