So do you have a mind to be the hottest rider around? Some wakeboarders just like to ride the little swells and not take any chances, while others like more of a challenge. The challenging route is something that most serious wakeboarders envision themselves taking. It takes practice, practice, practice, lots of time, and a large helping of patience to perform wakeboarding tricks. Better get started quick!
There are so many great tricks out there just waiting for you. There are spins, slides, inverts, blinds, and loops, just to name a few. For starters, you may want to only do surface tricks as you are still getting used to controlling your board, balance, and navigation.
As you start off on your journey through the wakeboarding world, be patient with yourself; you're going to make mistakes and there's just no way around it. Some of the better known surface tricks include potato peelers, backside butterslide, backside butterslide 180, perez, surf carve, powerslide, surface 180, surface 360, and tumble turn.
But if you feel like you're prepared to get some air between you and the water, you could try out some board grabs and simple rotational wakeboard tricks. Some wakeboarding tricks include progressive toeside edge, progressive heelside edge, heelside frontside, method grab, ollie backside, butterslides, 180s, and switching. But you should only try these out once you feel comfortable maintaining balance and control.
Once you have some of the simple grabs and rotational tricks down, you can attempt at something a little more complicated. Intermediate riders should consider practicing some of these wakeboard tricks: tantrum, heelside off-axis 360, heelside 540, roll to revert, indy backside 180 (blind), back roll, and toeside frontside 540.
But then you have the advanced riders, who can pretty much do whatever they set their minds to. They can tackle some really notorious wakeboard tricks that include difficult moves, which could include complicated spins and inverts. These tricks are often joined up with cool grabs.
If you are an advanced rider, you should try these out: tantrum to blind, whirlybird, front flip, elephant, crow mobe, heelside mobe, and wrapped KGB. Remember, you can use your imagination to create your own wakeboard tricks.
You don't have to stick to what others have come up with. Once you've been doing some of these tricks and feel comfortable with them, it's time to move on to your next personal level of achievement.
