Windmills are probably one of the most recognized moves in breakdancing. It's one of the basic power moves in breakdancing and will turn heads on both the dance floor and during breakdance battles if perfected. This guide will teach you step by step on how to master this breakdancing move!

1. The first step is to learn the "collapse." This allows the breakdancer to transition smoothly into the windmill. This step is critical and will determine the form of your windmill. If done properly, the rest of the windmill should be a breeze.

2. To collapse, get in a push up position. Spread your right leg as far right as you can. Your right elbow should be right under your gut on the right side of your abs.

3. "Stab" your elbow into your gut while raising your left leg. At the same time, your right leg should be kicking under your left leg toward the left. Swing your left leg hard to gain speed.

4. Fold your right arm in. If you performed everything correctly, you should now be on your back with your legs spread in a V.

5. Hold your right leg up and swing your left leg down and to your right in a circular motion. Once you get far enough to the right, swing your leg up. This should bring your body up to prepare for the next stab.

6. Once your abs are off the floor, stab your right elbow back in. If performde correctly, you should be stabbing exactly where you stabbed when you began the windmill. If you failed to gain the proper height, work on controlling and kicking your legs.

7. When you can perform the first round of the windmill cleanly, repeat steps 1-6 for continuous windmills.

Breakdancers often try and employ techniques such as leg straightening and shorter stabs to obtain "cleaner" windmills. Remember, form is an integral part of breakdancing! Try to keep your body stiff and your legs straight while performing this move.
