You've decided that you would like to learn to Ballroom Dance, particularly after watching all those marvelous dancing shows on TV, or maybe you are looking to get into shape but the gym scene just really isn't you. Deciding to learn ballroom dancing is an excellent decision but if you've never been the dancing type before, it can be a bit daunting about where to start. Here are some helpful tips to learning ballroom dancing.

If you're shy, or a little reserved, a group ballroom class may not feel right for you. There is personal 1 on 1 instruction and this is probably the best and most effective option, it isn't you're only alternative. With the media focus on ballroom dancing in the recent past, there are a number of instructional options that may be more suited to you and your circumstances.

One of the newer instructional options are DVD's and videos on ballroom dancing that you can watch them in the comfort of your own home and practice at any time. These may certainly be more affordable than ballroom dance lessons.

Of course, as the Internet has grown, you can also find websites that teach you how to ballroom dance which may present a better option for you if you are on a budget. There are a couple of really good websites that break down every type of ballroom dance. Even better, some of these websites have instructional videos that you can watch.

If you decide that you want to attend a ballroom dance class in person, you will need to locate a studio (or an academy, as it may be called) in, or near to, your local area. Do your research though! Some dance studios only teach children whilst others focus on specific types of dance like ballet or jazz. There are studios that offer ongoing dance classes, or will provide you with package that lasts for a specified amount of time and aren't all that expensive.

Local community centres, colleges or universities are also a great place to look as many offer ballroom dancing as a credit for physical education, and these classes are generally open to the public to attend. Generally, these style of classes are one hour long and occur once or twice a week. The length of the course is about four to five months. Whilst ballroom dancing classes through a studio may prove costly, classes through these types of institutions are generally very inexpensive or free.

A good way to keep cost at a minimum is to share your dance lessons with a friend or partner. However, if you don't have a partner to attend ballroom dance lessons with, most studios will pair you up if you are single.
